The Formation of Manganous Dithionate in the Manganese Oxide Flue Gas Desulfurization

Abstract:


Background & Objective: The manganous dithionate (MnS2O6, MD) formed by during the process of flue gas desulfurization process over manganese ore, which would impede the further using of the lixivium. In this study, the MD formation and restraint in the desulfurization process over manganese oxide was carefully investigated.

Results: The MD formation was only via the uncompleted oxidation of SO2 with MnO2. The Mn2O3, Mn3O4 and MnCO3 were mainly by affecting the pH of slurry to increase the MD generation. Processability study showed that the increase the acidity of desulfurization slurry, gaseous O2 content and slurry temperature could inhibit the MD formation effectively. The optimum operation conditions in order to restrain MD formation were higher than 50 °C slurry temperature, 10% oxygen and the pH less than 3. The amount of MD formed by different manganese oxides is different, and it can be controlled by the ore proportioning.

Conclusion: The application of anolyte prepared slurry for desulfurization gave a good verification for the results, and provided a technical support for cleaner production and reclamation of electrolytic manganese industry.
